No New York State guide would be complete without mentioning Beacon, which many refer to as “NoBro” or “North Brooklyn” due to the large number of Brooklynites that have moved there.

Enjoy hip eateries and shops as well as the contemporary art museum Dia:Beacon.

Peekskill (Hudson Valley)

I spend a lot of time at Peekskill Brewery, and the Peekskill Coffee House is one of my favorite cafes on the planet. Moreover, seeing the sunset on the waterfront, which also features an art-filled park, is a must.

Cold Spring (Hudson Valley)

Cold Spring is the perfect destination for a couples getaway in Upstate NY. This adorable village is full of boutiques and romantic restaurants, and is also walkable to a number of memorable hiking trails with beautiful views, like the Bull Hill Full Loop.

You’re also a quick Uber to the Breakneck Ridge Hike and the Anthony’s Nose Hike — some of the top attractions in the Hudson Valley!

Woodstock (The Catskills)

While the famous concert by the same name actually happened in Bethel, the town of Woodstock retains a hippie vibe.

There are loads of restaurants, local shops, and art spaces, not to mention you can enjoy hiking Overlook Mountain. Don’t miss seeing a BYOB show at Levon Helm Studios.

Lake Placid (The Adirondacks)

Hike the high peaks before heading to the adorable Village of Lake Placid, a fun mountain town full of restaurants, bars, and shops surrounding the stunning Mirror Lake. A meal on the water is highly recommended during any romantic getaway in The Adirondacks

The Adirondacks is home to 46 high peaks that tower over 4,000 feet. I’ve done a few myself — like hiking Mount Marcy.

Additionally, while not an official high peak, the Mount van Hoevenberg trail is a fun yet challenging option that rewards you will gorgeous views.

Honestly, if you’re looking for the best hikes in Upstate New York, Lake Placid is a great destination option, especially if you enjoy Adirondack getaways.

Corning (Finger Lakes).

Home of the famous Corning Glass, which you can explore through the Corning Museum of Glass and its 45,000+ pieces.

Like the destinations mentioned above, Corning is also a walkable city full of local eateries, shops, and entertainment.

Moreover, you’re not far from Watkins Glen State Park, known for its stunning waterfall hiking. This is a true highlight of any Finger Lakes travel guide!

Skaneateles (Finger Lakes)

Unforgettable romantic vacations are easy to find in this adorable town, which features lots of shops and eateries and is right on the lovely Skaneateles Lake, one of the region’s namesake Finger Lakes.

Skaneateles is also home to one of my all-time favorite romantic hotels, Mirbeau Inn & Spa, which includes access to the spa’s saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs in the room rate. NYC To Upstate New York By Train

One way to get to your destination is via the Metro-North. In fact, many of the destinations mentioned above are walkable from the train — like Cold Spring and Peekskill — while others would simply require a quick Uber from the station.
