Product Launch Plan Template Strategy

Launch A Product Marketing Plan [Episode Transcript]

We’ve talked about creating and selling products in previous episodes of The Profitable Travel Blogger Podcast. But, you may still be wondering — “how do I actually go about successfully promoting what I’m trying to sell?”.

That is exactly what we’ll be going over in this episode! In fact, by the end, you’ll have a step-by-step plan for growing a blog and becoming a full-time blogger through creating and promoting products.

More specifically, I’ll be sharing a product launch template that you can use to promote your new digital products as well as your existing offers.

While it’s more of an intermediate strategy, if you’re wondering how to become a travel blogger and make money it’s definitely a smart episode to save for later.

Product Launch Plan Overview

To start off, let’s define the word “launch.”

A launch is a marketing push to promote a new product — or a product that isn’t always available for purchase. For instance, I host a launch event every time the doors to my Travel Blog Prosperity membership reopen to the public.

The marketing push typically takes place over a set time period, with the ability to purchase — which we’ll call “the cart” — being open for a portion of that time.

Before the cart opens, you’ll typically have some pre-launch content meant to help you grow your audience as well as warm your audience up for the sale.

Now, there are many different ways to go about doing a digital product launch. I’ll be providing one example here, though I recommend using what I share as a product launch framework that you can tweak to really be your own.

For our purposes in this episode, we’ll look at a product launch marketing plan template that has the cart open for five days.

During this time, you’ll be publishing emails and social media posts each day to entice people to purchase. We’ll dive deeper into what you should say in these messages later in the episode.

What You’ll Need For Your Product Launch Campaign

Okay, so you’ve decided to do a launch event instead of preselling your online course (which is another option). Let’s start by chatting about what you need to gather for a successful product launch.

Your product launch plan checklist includes:

1) An opt-in freebie that helps you grow your email list with targeted subscribers who would benefit from your product. I highly recommend learning how to create opt-in freebies for your blog and then checking out some popular opt-in freebie ideas.

2) Pre-launch content that warms your audience up to the topic of your product and positions you as an expert on the topic. These could be things like in-depth blog posts, YouTube videos, social media posts, emails, livestreams, and podcast episodes (you can grab a streamlined podcasting workflow here).

Remember, you can quickly create content using AI with a tool like Jasper, including blog, email, social media, and marketing content. Click here for a free trial of Jasper.

Additionally, you should be constantly promoting your opt-in freebie in this pre-launch content so that when the cart does open for your product you have a list of people to market to.

Pro tip:

If that sounds overwhelming, keep in mind that you can create one piece of long-form content each week — such as an in-depth blog post.

From there you can let your email list know the post published, share takeaways from the post across your social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok, and go live to talk about some of the points mentioned in the post or to answer questions you received about the topic from your audience.

3) A webinar or free challenge related to your product. While this is optional, hosting events like these can really help you to boost your travel blogging income.

This is because you’re helping your audience see a result even before they’ve purchased your product, which can make people more likely to purchase.

4) Your launch bonuses and upsells. I recommend having at least one early-bird bonus to entice people to buy early, some general launch bonuses that everyone who purchases gets and that make the overall launch more valuable, and a relevant upsell that buyers get pitched after checking out.

Often this upsell will be offered at a discount, but only if they purchase right then.

5) Your launch emails. You’ll want to create a sequence of emails that entices people to purchase.

Typically, email converts better than social media, so you’ll likely see most of your sales coming from your webinar as well as this sequence.

6) Your promotional social media shares. Along with daily emails, while the cart is open you’ll also want to be sharing on social media each day about your launch. Pro tip: I highly recommend checking out this Pinterest guide.

Product Launch Timeline Template + Example

Okay, so let’s bring this digital product launch plan to life with an example.

Let’s say your product is a course on How To Make Money Travel Blogging, and the cart will be open from April 8-12.

With this product launch schedule, your first step will be to create an opt-in freebie that you’ll promote to attract your target audience.

This might be something like a list of blog monetization ideas, a Blogger Personality Quiz that shares a monetization suggestion based on the quiz taker’s personality, or a free profitable travel blogging email course.

Remember, this is the opt-in freebie you want to be promoting like crazy during the weeks leading up to your launch event.

Okay, so if the cart opens on April 8, then you’ll want to spend the month of March publishing one piece of in-depth content each week — such as an in-depth blog post. These blog posts should be related to your product and should also be the perfect place to promote your opt-in freebie.

So, maybe one of your blog posts is on how to create & monetize a blog series. You could then promote the new blog post to your email list — sharing some information on why you wrote it and how reading it will benefit their lives.

Additionally, you might turn the various tips in the post into standalone social media shares.

Finally, you can create a YouTube video to complement the post — such as a behind-the-scenes look at how you plan out a blog series — or even go live to expand on your post.

For this launch blueprint, you’ll repeat this process each week for the entire month of March.

From there, you want to use the first week of April to host your free webinar(s) or challenge. Again, the goal is to help you provide results for your audience before they’ve even purchased your product.

For instance, you might host a live webinar sharing 10 strategies for increasing passive income as a travel blogger, and then pitch your online blogging course at the end.

Moreover, you might offer some special webinar-only bonuses to make the offer extra enticing.

Now, the following week is when the cart is open. This is when you’ll send your daily emails, so make sure to block everyone who purchased during the webinar from receiving these emails so you don’t annoy them.

By the way, if you need help with webinars I’ve got a step-by-step strategy for you right here:

Product Launch Plan Example Email Campaign

Okay, so let’s talk about these launch emails.

Again, there are many ways to do this, but do realize there is a psychology to your email sequence and that every email has a distinct purpose. You really want people to understand that your product can truly change their lives and exactly how it can.

Here is a sample product launch email sequence.

Note that I will be going over how to write engaging emails and even sharing email types in an upcoming podcast episode, so make sure to subscribe to the show so you don’t miss that.

Email #1: Announce the product + that the cart is open.

Email #2: Share information about the bonuses — including the early-bird bonuses expiring tonight. You can also send an email later today letting people know the bonuses are expiring.

Email #3: Emotional connection story — for instance, you might share a storytelling email about how you used to feel stressed and frazzled all of the time, but now you know how to work smarter instead of harder, which is exactly what you’ll be showing students how to do inside the course.

Email #4: Share a strategy relating to your product, noting how the product can help them complete the strategy — for example, you can send an email sharing ways to grow your blog and get blog followers while working less, noting that each of the tactics mentioned is covered in-depth in your course.

Email #5: Frequently Asked Questions email that also reminds them that the doors close tonight. You should also send one or two more emails reminding them the cart is closing.

You can repurpose your daily emails into daily social shares, too.

Note that utilizing video in your shares is smart as it can help build trust, so consider going live during the launch and using video on Instagram Stories to help people see your face and build that connection.

Digital Product Launch Tips

Okay, so before we end this episode sharing a product launch plan template, I just want to share a few additional digital product launch framework tips to help you see even more success:

1. Have an affiliate program for your product

Spend time reaching out to bloggers who have an engaged audience that is interested in your product topic and offer to pay them a commission for any customers they send your way.

Let your affiliates know in advance about your launch to give them time to prepare, and help them with promotions by creating email swipe copy and sample social media posts and graphics.

In terms of courses, Teachable makes it really easy to onboard affiliates and you can set the commission rate yourself.

My Teachable affiliate link in the show notes scores you a two-week free trial of their Pro Plan, too!

2. Include social proof in your product launch campaign

In at least one email, try to weave in a testimonial or win from a previous customer. You might even consider using a testimonial as the inspiration for an entire email.

3. Analyze your product launch once it’s over

Take note of what worked really well and what didn’t so that the next time you launch it’ll be even better. Additionally, consider if there are aspects of the launch that worked well and can be turned into an evergreen event that consistently brings in new customers on autopilot.

For instance, if your webinar was a hit, republish it as a pre-recorded workshop you always promote that pitches your product with bonuses as a limited time offer.

4. Is there an opportunity for a tripwire offer?

A tripwire is a valuable limited-time discounted offer that’s promoted on the thank you page of your opt-in freebie.

Because it’s only available for a very short while, it creates urgency.

Creating a relevant tripwire offer can be a great way to get people used to purchasing from you before you pitch them your larger product!

Alright, now I hope you enjoyed this episode.

If you’re curious how to monetize a blog, hopefully this tutorial helped and you now feel inspired and empowered to put together a digital product launch that can help you boost your blogging income.
