Content Series Strategy – Episode 6 Transcript

One issue I see in the blogging world is that it’s tough for bloggers to understand how creating valuable content translates to income.

That big-picture vision.

The truth is all of these avenues that you use to get your message out there — your travel blog posts, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook — should connect to form one large vision for your blogging business.

Now if this all sounds really confusing, stay tuned, because this episode is going to help you create a content strategy workflow that can lead to increased traffic, subscribers, and income.

So, if you’re wondering how to increase blog traffic fast, this episode is for you!

But, before we dive in:

I want to direct your attention to the show notes where I’ve shared a link to my free Crafting A Successful Blog Content Strategy Workbook — located inside my Travel Blogger Resource Library here — that will help you take what you learn in this episode and apply it to your own blogging business.

If you’re frustrated by spending hours or even days creating content without it really moving the needle in your business, you’ll definitely want this freebie.

Feel free to even pause the episode to go grab that right now.

You back?

Okay, let’s dive in.

Now, you can monetize your blog content in many ways: Display ads with networks like Mediavine and Ezoic, sponsorships, affiliate marketing.

In this episode though, we’ll be talking about how you can use your content to turn your readers into subscribers, where you can then nurture them into raving fans and warm them up to purchase your products.

If you do not have your own product, that’s okay. You can also use affiliate products that would benefit your audience for this strategy.

Just note:

  • a) you need to carefully read the terms of all your affiliate partners so you know where you’re allowed to promote the affiliate links, and
  • b) I recommend eventually coming up with your own product to have more control over your income and promotions. To help with this, here is a list sharing some of the most profitable digital products you can sell as a blogger!

By the way:

The episode on how to create a challenge shares a similar strategy for making money with affiliates by promoting a series of content.

Step #1: Pinpoint the end goal of your blog series.

As with many strategies, it can be helpful to start with your actual goal and work backward to determine what needs to get done for the goal to be reached. You might even draft this in a blog content plan template to help you stay organized and post faster.

For this step, your end goal is to get people to purchase a product that is relevant to your audience and helps them solve a problem they actually have.

This is really important because you want to create one giant cohesive ecosystem where every single piece of content you put out — no matter the type of content or where it’s published — is working to fulfill a mission that serves your audience.

(Hint: If you’re confused about how to create a social media strategy, this is key.)

Here is an example:

If you help travel hackers explore the world on miles and points, you’ll create blog posts, emails and social media shares that help fulfill this.

You’ll also create products that further help your audience do this.

Step #2: Plan out a content series.

A content series is a series of about three-to-five blog posts that build on each other to teach a complete strategy.

They’re usually released one week apart from each other.

This is where you can have some fun coming up with unique blog ideas that are also super helpful.

So if your series is aimed at helping travelers become professional travel photographers, your series might look like this:

  • Post #1: Choosing your camera equipment
  • Post #2: Creating an impressive portfolio
  • Post #3: Methods for monetizing your travel photography

Quick tip here:

Make that final post in your series a collaborative post where 10+ bloggers share their travel photography monetization methods.

The benefit of this is you’ll now have 10+ other bloggers who will likely share the post on their channels, meaning extra traffic to your content.

Step #3: Work to convert your blog visitors to subscribers.

So now you have this juicy content series that will benefit your audience, grow your authority in your niche and help you grow your traffic.

Let’s make it even more powerful by having it also grow your email list.

There are two methods I recommend adding to your blogging workflow for this:

  • #1) Encourage people to subscribe to your email list to get notified when the next post in the series publishes. This way they don’t need to keep checking back to see.
  • #2) Create a free opt-in offer that will make it easier for people to implement what you’re teaching. This could be something like a cheat sheet, a workbook, or even access to a free resource library with various printables for travel photographers. Make sure to promote the opt-in freebie throughout the post to make it really easy for people to sign up.

Step #4: Nurture subscribers with content related to your blog series topic.

One huge mistake many bloggers make when it comes to growing an email list is they never actually email their list.

If you’re not emailing your list at minimum once per month with valuable content, they’re going to forget who you are and what you do.

Then when you do email them, they’ll likely unsubscribe.

Make sure every email you send is packed with value, whether you’re teaching more strategies, sharing helpful videos and blog posts, talking about your favorite free apps and tools, or something else.

Your goal with this is to not only educate and empower your audience, but to show off your expertise, grow your relationship, and help them to the point where they think, “Wow, if this is how great the free content is, I can’t wait to see what’s offered in the paid version.”

Step #5: Nurture your blog subscribers into customers.

Now it’s time to get your awesome paid product in front of your community.

Doing a product launch or promoting a special promotion or bonus are a few tactics for getting your list interested.

What I recommend here is as you’re emailing your list, make sure that you’re focusing on the benefits of your product and not just the features so people can really see how your product can change their life.

For instance, if you create a course on travel photography, the included 10 modules and the monthly office hours, well, those are features.

The benefits are what those features help them achieve, such as making their dream of being a profitable travel photographer happen sooner.

What is really great about the strategy is the more people you bring into your community, the more you can grow your income while helping others.

It is a total win-win.

Now, I hope you enjoyed this episode. I hope you feel inspired and empowered to go create your own blog content series.

Don’t forget to grab the workbook in the show notes — or here — so you can really put learning into practice.

And finally, make sure to subscribe for future episodes so you don’t miss a single profitable blogging strategy.

Happy blogging!
