1) Thank you so much for taking the time to share your Flipboard tips! To start, can you tell us more about yourself, your business, and how you got into Flipboard?

Thank you for having me! I’ve been blogging for about seven years, and when I started, I was looking for creative ways to generate traffic.

Back then, I used platforms like StumbleUpon, which eventually rebranded as Mix.com, and I loved how much traffic it brought.

Over time, I experimented with other content-sharing platforms, and Flipboard turned out to be one of the few that consistently brought valuable visitors to my site.

Today, I use it to share my own blog posts and client content, and it continues to be an important traffic source.

2) For those new to Flipboard, what is it, and why should travel bloggers consider it?

In simple terms, Flipboard is a content aggregation platform where you can create digital “magazines” that showcase articles on topics you care about.

Users can follow topics, people, or brands, which means your travel content can reach an audience that’s already interested in your niche.

Flipboard is visually appealing and focuses heavily on travel topics, making it perfect for travel bloggers looking to expand their reach.

3) If a blogger is ready to dive in, how should they set up and optimize their Flipboard account?

It’s straightforward! Start by creating an account and completing your profile. Add a bio and profile picture, and create magazines around topics that align with your blog content.

Join group magazines if possible, as this increases visibility.

Then, make it a habit to share blog posts regularly. Fresh content performs well on Flipboard, so consistency is key!

4) What should travel bloggers keep in mind when naming their Flipboard magazines?

Choose clear, keyword-rich names that describe the magazine’s main topic.

Sometimes, devices don’t display the full magazine name, so make sure the primary topic is toward the front.

Adding your brand name can help with brand recognition, like “Solo Female Travel – Jessie on a Journey.” This way, users can quickly see what your magazine is about and are more likely to follow it.

5) How can bloggers find and leverage group magazines to increase their reach?

Blogging communities, especially on platforms like Facebook, are a great resource.

For example, there’s a group I co-manage where we have daily Flipboard sharing threads, allowing bloggers to support each other by sharing each other’s content.

You can also join public group magazines relevant to your niche. Contributing to both large and small magazines is beneficial, as smaller groups can have more targeted audiences.

6) Once a magazine is set up, what types of content perform best on Flipboard?

Content on specific destinations, especially popular travel regions like Europe and North America, tends to perform well. Travel tips are also great because they have broad appeal.

The key is to post each piece in the most relevant magazines. Group magazines really help with this, as they let you reach an audience already interested in a specific topic.

7) How frequently should bloggers share content on Flipboard? Is there a strategy behind what to share?

I recommend a mix of your content and others’—I usually share 5 pieces from others for every 1 of my own. This balance prevents over-promotion and builds community.

A good rule is to aim for 1-3 flips of your own content per day, plus 15 flips of other people’s content. This keeps your profile active and visible.

8) What are some ways bloggers can increase their reach and encourage clicks on Flipboard?

Flipboard favors titles that spark curiosity and engagement, which are often different from SEO-optimized titles on blog posts. Therefore, it’s helpful to change up the titles—as well as the post date as Flipboard also favors new posts since it’s a news aggregator.

Post Polish lets you easily update your blog post title and publish date by creating a duplicate of your blog posts; however, it can be pricey.

To avoid paying, some Flipboard users manually duplicate their older content and re-optimize it with a new title and description before setting a canonical tag to the original post.

This method, while more manual, is a free alternative to tools like Post Polish, which allows for title and description customization on each flip.

9) Do you use different visuals for each flip, or is it okay to use the same image and description for every magazine?

I recommend experimenting with different images, as visuals can impact performance.

Unfortunately, without pricey tools like Post Polish, you can’t change the title or description easily, but adding captions can help customize each flip.

Trying different visuals and captions allows you to test what resonates most with your audience.

10) For bloggers with limited time, do you have any recommended tools for streamlining Flipboard?

The Flip It Chrome extension is super helpful—it lets you share posts directly from your browser, which saves a lot of time.

And for bloggers with a large amount of content, tools like Post Polish, which allow for title and description adjustments, can be beneficial, though they’re a bit of an investment.

11) What’s the biggest mistake you see bloggers make on Flipboard, and how can they avoid it?

Naming magazines poorly is a common issue. Some names aren’t clear or are overly branded, so users aren’t sure what to expect.

Start with a straightforward topic name, like “Europe Travel,” and add your branding after if needed. This helps users understand the topic at a glance, increasing the likelihood they’ll follow it.

12) Thank you so much for sharing your Flipboard tips! Before we sign off, can you let everyone know where they can find you?

Thank you!
