How To Collaborate With Other Bloggers [Audio + Guide]

One of the best ways to grow quickly is to collaborate with other bloggers.

Instead of trying to optimize your content to rank in Google and then waiting to see if your efforts paid off, or posting to social media and hoping the right people see it, collaboration allows you to get in front of your target audience right away.

But, how can you actually collaborate with other bloggers in a meaningful way that leads to increased clicks, subscribers, and sales? That is exactly what weโ€™ll be going over in this episode!

Iโ€™ll be going over 10 specific collaboration ideas for bloggersโ€”with examples and implementation tips to help you easily put learning into practice.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #1: Swap opt-in freebies

Building an email list is one of the best ways to create a sustainable blogging business that isnโ€™t at the mercy of algorithm changes.

A great way to grow your list quickly is by cross-promoting opt-in freebies with another creator in your niche. This is the top way I work with bloggers.

My favorite way to do this is through a guest email swap, where you write an email for their list promoting your freebie, and they do the same for yours. This works especially well because email subscribers tend to convert better than social media followers.

That being said, if you feel a different channel has stronger conversionsโ€”such as Instagram Reels or Facebook groupsโ€”you can pitch that for the swap instead.

๐ŸŽ Bonus: Curious how to reach out to bloggers for this type of collaboration? Iโ€™ve added my go-to freebie swap pitch template to the free Travel Blogger Resource Library!

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #2: Join each otherโ€™s affiliate programs

When it comes to affiliate marketing, we often think of promoting big brandsโ€”but there are likely other creators in your niche who sell products and have affiliate programs.

If you also have your own affiliate program, consider reaching out to see how you can cross-promote each other’s products and get a kick-back in the process.

One idea is to co-host an affiliate webinar. With this, you can either be the affiliate or the brandโ€”or both, if you want to take turns.

Letโ€™s say youโ€™re the affiliate. Your collaboratorโ€”as in, the product sellerโ€”would create a free webinar that teaches something related to their product.

As the affiliate, your main job would be promoting the free webinar to your audience and getting as many people as possible to attend.

At the end of the webinar, your collaborator would pitch their productโ€”using your affiliate link, possibly with a higher commission as a bonus for your extra effort in promoting the event. To make the offer extra enticing, you might include bonuses and/or a discount.

Keep in mind, if you have a product, you could also reverse roles so that your collaborator is now promoting a webinar you teach that pitches your product and uses their affiliate link.

Note that if this sounds complicated, you can also keep it simplerโ€”such as promoting each other’s products in your newsletters or social media content with affiliate links.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #3: Co-create a video series

Another way to collaborate with other creators is through video content. Whether short-form Instagram Reels and TikToks or long-form YouTube videos, this is a powerful way to expand your reach while providing valuable resources for both of your audiences.

For instance, if youโ€™re in the travel hacking niche, you might film a two-part YouTube series on something like How to Book Free Hotel Stays.

  • Part 1 could cover earning hotel points and be published on your channel
  • Part 2 could focus on maximizing them for free nights and upgrades and be published on your collaboratorโ€™s channel

To increase visibility, save both videos to a shared playlist and use clear calls-to-action to direct viewers to the other video in the series.

If youโ€™re thinking โ€œWhat if we donโ€™t live in the same city to record together?โ€ you can always record your respective parts separately and edit them together later. Tools like Zencastr and Descript also make remote co-recording simple with virtual recording rooms and easy editing features.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #4: Co-create a product

Now let’s talk about creating profitable content, products.

While you can launch your own digital product, you can also benefit from strength in numbers by co-creating a paid product that helps both of your audiences. This way, youโ€™re not only combining your expertise but also your promotion powers. For example, a food travel blogger and a wine travel expert could team up to create a Food & Wine Loversโ€™ Guide to Italy.

With this, just make sure you have an easy way to split the profitsโ€”preferably in a way that is automated by your sales platform.

Personally, I use Teachable to sell courses, memberships, and digital downloads, which allows me to onboard collaborators easily and assign them payout amounts for them to be paid automatically.

This screenshot shows how easy it is to assign co-authors revenue share amounts in Teachable

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #5: Bundle your products

If you and another blogger have complementary digital products, bundling them together can be a powerful way to increase sales while providing extra value to your audience.

For example, one of my products is a How To Start A Tour Company Masterclass. If I knew someone who had an in-depth workshop on Creating a Standout Tour Website That Converts or Using Paid Ads to Scale Your Tour Business, that could be a well-matched product bundle!

Another simple way to do this is through cross-promotions within your funnels. Instead of creating a full bundle, you can add each otherโ€™s products as an upsell or exclusive bonus.

For instance, if someone buys my course, I could offer 30% off my collaboratorโ€™s course as an exclusive post-purchase deal and vice versa.

To really see success with this, I recommend making it clear to customers how the products can work together to get them even better resultsโ€”such as positioning them as a complete system to achieving a goal.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #6: Guest features

Sometimes, the easiest way to collaborate is through being a guest on each otherโ€™s platforms.

There are endless ways to do this, like:

โœ”๏ธ Guest blog postsโ€”as in, when one blogger writes an article for someone elseโ€™s site in exchange for backlinks.

โœ”๏ธ Podcast guest appearancesโ€”where you can share your expertiseโ€”and sometimes even your freebies and productsโ€”on another creatorโ€™s podcast.

โœ”๏ธ Instagram takeoversโ€”when you temporarily take over another creatorโ€™s Instagram account to share content, engage with their audience, and introduce them to your brand.

โœ”๏ธ Community guest expertโ€”such as if you have a membership or Facebook group where you host workshops or Q&As.

โœ”๏ธ YouTube guest featuresโ€”more on that one in a secondโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ’ก But first, a quick tip: When pitching a guest feature, donโ€™t just say, โ€œIโ€™d love to be on your podcast.โ€ Instead, offer a specific topic idea that aligns with their audienceโ€™s interests. This will help your pitch stand out.

Going back to โ€œYouTube guest features,โ€ I know this idea will be new to some people, so let me share an example.

Recently, I had another blogger, Anna Cook of Stuck on the Go, do a guest workshop on my Make Money Travel Blogging YouTube Channel about brand pitching mistakes to avoid and how to fix them. I recorded the introduction and conclusion to fit the usual flow of my channel.

After the intro, I welcomed Anna as a guest expert and then the video transitioned into her mini workshop. Iโ€™ll link the video below so you can see it for yourself.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #7: Co-host an event

Hosting an event with another blogger is one of the most engaging ways to expand your audience while building authority in your niche. Whether big or small, events encourage real-time interaction, boost engagement, and strengthen your connection with your audience.

Donโ€™t be nervous about the word “event”โ€”these can be as simple or large-scale as you want, depending on your goals and comfort level.

Some ideas for both include:

โœ”๏ธ Live co-hosted AMA (Ask Me Anything) or Q&A where you go live on your social media platform of choice to answer questions in real time.

โœ”๏ธ A virtual summit where you bring together multiple bloggers in your niche to host a live or pre-recorded event. As part of your newsletter strategy, you can run it as a free email list-building eventโ€”potentially with a paid upgrade ticketโ€”or as a fully paid event.

โœ”๏ธ A virtual co-working session where participants join a live call to set goals, focus on tasks, and check in for accountability. Both hosts can provide expert insights and light guidance while allowing attendees to work independently in a structured environment.

โœ”๏ธ A mastermind, which is typically a paid program offering deeper peer support. Both hosts co-lead discussions, provide coaching or training, and offer exclusive bonuses.

Iโ€™ll share more ideas for co-hosted events in the next few sections.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #8: Co-host a giveaway

With a giveaway, you can pool resources to offer a valuable prize or use your joint pitching powers to reach out to brands to donate prizesโ€”and then co-promote the giveaway to help increase participants!

To enter, require that people follow both bloggers on a certain channel or join both email lists.

๐Ÿ’กPro tip: Choose prizes that align with your nicheโ€”vs that are simply valuable.

Offering a Macbook Pro or the latest iPhone as a prize will get you entries, but it doesnโ€™t necessarily attract your ideal audience as much as, say, personal travel safety products would if you cover solo travel.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #9: Co-host a challenge

A co-hosted free challenge is a powerful way to grow both email lists, boost engagement, and potentially generate sales if you promote products during or after.

There are many ways you could do this. Here are a few ideas:

โœ”๏ธ One shared GDPR-compliant sign-up page that clearly states participants will join both email lists and includes opt-in checkboxes for compliance. If people are joining two email lists, ensuring your setup is fully GDPR compliant will be very important.

โœ”๏ธ Divide responsibilities. To keep things simple, one creator handles the daily challenge emails, growing their list, while the other manages engagement in their Facebook group or another community platform, boosting group membership and interaction. This way, both hosts see growth in different areas that align with their strengths.

โœ”๏ธ One creator takes the lead in developing and running the challenge, handling the content, emails, and engagement, while the other promotes it as an affiliate. This allows the lead creator to grow their email list and sell their paid product, while the affiliate partner earns commissions for each referral. Itโ€™s a great setup when one person has a strong product to sell, and the other wants to offer value to their audience without managing the challenge logistics.

๐Ÿค Collaboration idea #10: Co-create a free bundle

A free bundle is an excellent way to grow your email list, expand your reach, and introduce new audiences to your content.

Instead of bundling paid products, which we discussed earlier, each creator contributes a free resource related to a shared theme, and everyone promotes the bundle to their audience.

For instance, a group of travel bloggers could create a “Travel Planning Starter Kit” with guides on budgeting, finding cheap flights, itinerary templates, and packing listsโ€”available for free in exchange for an email sign-up.

To keep things simple and GDPR-compliant, you can have people sign up for each resource individually.

To add a sense of urgency, ask people to contribute a freebie that isnโ€™t available elsewhere and have the bundle only be available for a limited time.

By the way, you can also monetize a free bundle by creating a sales funnel.

For instance, you could have a low-cost, limited-time tripwire offer presented immediately after someone signs up for your freebie. Tripwire offers tend to convert well, as long as the product being showcased directly complements and solves the same problem as the freebie.

๐Ÿ’กFinal tips for collaborating with other bloggers

Now before we end I want to share a few final tips.

โœ”๏ธ When deciding which collaboration to focus on, think about your unique goals for your business and which will help you reach them. Additionally, consider your skills and interests. If a specific collaboration idea doesnโ€™t excite you, choose something else.

โœ”๏ธ No matter which collaboration strategy you focus on, always include a clear call to action (CTA). Tell your audience exactly what to do nextโ€”whether itโ€™s signing up for a freebie, watching the next video, or purchasing a product. Without a CTA, youโ€™re leaving growth and conversions on the table!

โœ”๏ธ Track your results to identify your best partners. Not every collaboration will be a hit, so track key metrics like email sign-ups, engagement, and sales to see what works. Over time, this helps you pinpoint high-performing partnersโ€”those whose audiences align best with yours. Once you find them, consider doubling down with bigger collaborations like co-creating a product or hosting a paid event.
