New York vs Paris Told Through Iconography

While we often hear people speak of cultural differences using words, sometimes the message becomes much clearer when told through pictures.

In the video above, artist Vahram Muratyan tells of the contrasts of these New York and Paris by comparing side-by-side drawings of everyday facets of both. Differences in how locals give directions, orient themselves, style their hair and drink alcohol are all explained using simple sketches. The effect is surprisingly thought provoking.

Muratyan describes his “Paris vs New York” project as “A friendly visual match between two cities told by a lover of Paris wandering through NewYork. Details, clichés, contradictions : This way, please.”

According to Matador, Penguin will be releasing a hardcover book of the artist’s work later this month. You can check out more “Paris vs New York” works on Muratyan’s blog.

Do you think Muratyan draws an accurate picture of the two cities?
