11 Crazy NYC Desserts That Will Make You Famous On Instagram. Photo via Underwest Donuts; Edited by Jessie on a Journey.

It used to be all about the Cronut®, then it was the milk & cookie shot glass. Now that we’ve all become obsessed with taking food photos, eateries have stepped up their culinary creations and all about the craziest colors, shapes and combinations. Below, check out the 11 most Instagrammable desserts in New York City right now, many of which I’ve tried myself, though a few are still on the bucket list.

1. The Macarose

The Macarose is a creamy gelato crafted into a beautiful rose shape. Instead of a cherry, though, it’s all about that macaron on top. It’s called the Macarose, and you can choose as many flavors of your choice as you want at Amorino Upper West Side. Seen here: a tiramisu, pistachio, chocolate and sweet milk rose with pistachio macaron, which I received courtesy of the owners!

2. Underwest Donuts

Underwest Donuts serves glazed and sugar-dusted donuts from a carwash on the West Side Highway. I tried the dark chocolate donut and carwash donut (lavender/vanilla); both were delicious! The kind of dense cakey donuts I feel like the stereotypical cop would eat and dip into a delicious cup of coffee.

3. Black Tap Milkshakes

Black Tap makes monster shakes that look unreal. The line is a bit long though…some of my friends who’ve tried it said they waited up to 2.5 hours. Still, it’s worth it for the tasty treats and the Instagram notoriety.

4. Minus Celsius Ice Cream

These are those “rolled” ice cream sundaes you see all over the interwebs. They look super cute; but, do they taste good? I must find out soon at Minus Celsius Ice Cream.

5. The Macaron Donut

This “Macaronut” is from Francois Payard Bakery in SoHo. Get them before the line starts getting huge…they were just covered in People Magazine.

6. Ice & Vice Sundae

These are those toasted marshmallows made by Squish Marshmallows poking out of the top, and the homemade cone by The Konery. It’s like it was made for Instagramming. Check them out at Ice & Vice in the Lower East Side.

7. Churro Ice Cream Sandwich

I had one of these at Playa Betty‘s in the Upper West Side during a complimentary tasting. It’s a dessert that’s very simple, and oh so delicious. They take two warm fresh flat churros and slap some vanilla bean ice cream in between for a crunchy and creamy creation.

8. Hong Kong Style Street Waffles

Eggloo in Chinatown serves Hong Kong style street waffles, filled with ice cream and topped with goodies.

9. Levain Cookies

Levain Bakery cookies are always a classic. I’ve stood in a long line for these, but it goes pretty fast. And it’s totally worth it. It’s so huge it’s basically an entire meal.

10. ConeCHURRO!®

ChikaLicious NYC is an East Village dessert bar that serves up messy, gluttonous cinnamon-sugar-swathed churro cones with melty soft serve of all flavors swirled on top.

11. The Rainbow Bagel

This crazy looking bagel is from the Bagel Store in Williamsburg. Yes, I’m counting this as a dessert. I mean, come on…funfetti cream cheese spread? It counts.

  1. I am totally jealous right now, especially since I was just in NYC a month ago and didn’t eat not one of these desserts. I feel like a failure 🙁 lol. But I bookmarked this page so I won’t fail again the next time i am in NYC.
