Hostel Review: Periko’s Youth Hostel, Bariloche, Argentina

From Buenos Aires, I knew I wanted to make my way down into the breathtaking area of Patagonia. One place I was told I must stop was Bariloche, Argentina, where there are beautiful landscapes, great hiking opportunities, and a delicious chocolate museum. I was also told Periko’s Youth Hostel is one of the best accommodations in the area, and for good reason.

Location When choosing a hostel, it’s important to be in a good location to fully experience the city you’re visiting. Periko’s is situated in the downtown area. It’s only a five minute walk from the main square, and right near an excellent supermarket. The best part, however, is that it allows you easy access to some of the most beautiful landscapes and hiking trails in the city. Honestly, exploring the local trails was one of the main highlights of traveling Argentina for me. Atmosphere First of all, I have to point out the hostel is extremely clean. Furthermore, there’s a very chilled out, rustic feeling to the hostel, which goes perfectly with the beautiful natural setting of the town. For example, a lounge in the hostel made it easy to hangout in comfy clothes with other travelers and really get to know each other. Outside, there is a beautiful garden that is very peaceful and relaxing. Free Perks I don’t know any backpacker that doesn’t love free perks. At this hostel, there is free WiFi and internet, breakfast, linens, towels, and a luggage room. Moreover, 24/7 hot showers are included in the price, and a self-catering kitchen makes it easy to meet other travelers and save money. In fact, it is one of the most well-equipped kitchens I have seen during my backpacking tour of South America. Overall Impression If you’re looking for a wild party hostel, then Periko’s isn’t for you. However, if you’re looking for a laid-back, social atmosphere, friendly staff and top-of-the-line hostel facilities, Periko’s Youth Hostel is a great choice. It’s one of the few hostels I’ve stayed in that many of the backpackers seem to be returning customers, due to the fact it feels like home more than a hostel. Thankx for all your info. I will spending 8 nights in Bariloche from 9 to 19 August 2012. I will be traveling solo. Like they say,” Solo traveling is a journey for self discovering”. I am going there to snowboard. I will be staying at Marco Polo inn Hostel. I just to stay there because of the bar and the lounge. My wishes for this summer are the volcano in Chile stays dormant and I get to Bariloche the conditions are great. Powder everyday!!!!
