Sipping California’s Flavor-Changing Cocktails

Chameleon Martini

Chameleon Martini being made at West Steak and Seafood

I’m a big fan of craft cocktails. Handcrafted libations made with fresh ingredients and precise recipes for the perfect blend of liquor, fresh-squeezed juice and seasonal fruits. At West Steak and Seafood, they take their cocktails to another level by not only adding herbs from their organic garden, but also offering flavor-changing cocktails that literally transform color and flavor as you sip. The secret is a flavor-changer — an ice cube filled with liquor and fresh fruit — that melts as you stir the drink to transform it completely.

There are two varieties of this unique martini offered, the “Mango Chameleon” and the “Raspberry Chameleon.” The “Mango Chamelon” combines citrus vodka, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and mint from the West Organic Garden, served with a frozen mango purée and Malibu rum flavor changer. Additionally the “Raspberry Chameleon” brings together citrus vodka, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, orange juice and basil from the West Organic Garden, served with a frozen raspberry purée and Chambord flavor changer. It’s one of the most innovative cocktails I’ve ever sipped, especially as it’s essentially numerous cocktails in one.

West Steak and Seafood is located at 4980 Avenida Encinas in Carlsbad, California, right outside of San Diego. Their phone number is (760) 930-9100.
