When traveling through Athens, Greece, visiting the Acropolis is an absolute must. For an affordable, social, and centrally-located hostel, stay at the Student Travellers Inn. Located in the heart of Plaka (Old Athens), the hostel is located on a very touristy but fun street and is walking distance from many parks (the National Garden of Athens is beautiful and you can spend a lot of time in there) , monuments and sites (check out Athens Stadium and the Zappeion, a Greek Parliament building), public transportation hubs, and, most importantly, the Acropolis.
While the word Acropolis is used to describe any elevated city, the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, is the most famous example and needs no qualifier. While there are many acropolises in Greece, and all over the world, when people say “the Acropolis” everyone knows what they are talking about. The Acropolis, which is a World Heritage Site, comes up 490 feet above sea level and the earliest artifacts from the area date back to the New Stone Age. When visiting the site, you will see various buildings and temples including the Parthenon, Propylaea, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike.
The Acropolis is open daily from 8 AM until 6:30 PM. Tickets cost about 12 Euros but also give you access to other Athens sites.
